How can I store coffee without everything smelling like it?

For months I’ve been keeping our coffee in a kitchen cabinet, but it’s always annoyed me that our storage containers (the empty ones kept in the same cupboard) smell like coffee! Is there any way to store ground coffee without the entire cabinet smelling like a cafe?

Please don’t tell me to freeze or refrigerate the coffee…I used to work with coffee and know that only promotes mold.

You might try keeping the can of coffee in an open, ventilated area. For example, on top of the refrigerator, or on the counter next to the Coffee maker, or on an open shelf rather than in a closed cupboard..
